Tired of scrolling past boring pictures on Instagram? In 2021, Instagram algorithms have pushed users to engage more with their audience by creating Instagram Reels in order to bring more traffic to their page rather than just posting pictures on their feed. I predict that this change will lead to brands putting more effort into their video content by staying up to date with the latest trends rather than posting static content on their page. In the world of social media, content has been more alive than ever thanks to the leading sensation TikTok taking over popular trends. Beauty brands such as Sephora are also taking advantage of Instagram Reels by uploading daily videos of makeup tutorials, skincare routines, recommended products, and fun content full of fashion and celebrity looks. In fact, they even have celebrity features on their Instagram Reels with hot sensations such as Selena Gomez.

From makeup, clothing, home improvement, to even supermarkets, brands on Instagram are uploading more video content highlighting their business while also staying on top of the latest trends. I predict that the days of brands solely posting just pictures on their feed are quickly coming to an end as business’s utilize Instagram’s new algorithm. Why is this such a breakthrough? Simply because Instagram was created to share photographs, unlike apps like TikTok or even Vine. How is Instagram trying to differentiate themselves from TikTok? Instagram has announced that they will no longer support videos that upload reused TikTok videos, so social media marketers do need to make sure their content is created using Instagram’s tools.
